Fine Artist / Conceptual
I studied Fine Arts at Bauhaus-University Weimar from 2007 to 2012, after my graduation I took a visiting semester at the Academy of Fine Arts Münster in the Löbbert's Class and now I am studying Metalsmithing and Jewellery at HAWK Hildesheim. I am happy to be chosen for the Artist-in-residence on Guernsey this year and look forward to my stay on the island.
In my artistic body I work with commensurabilities and processes of creating value. Definitions of luxury and money, exclusivity and precious goods as well as their questioning are hubs in my work.
In different media, ranging from painting and drawing to objects and installations I work on questions which find their origin in the financial world, the economy or royalty and fashion – the life of keeping up appearances, all of vanity fair, the glow of luxury, they all trigger in me fascination as well as animosity. Nowadays are performances a part of my artistic work, where I stage myself, usually in appropriate, expensive clothing, as a businessmen or nobleman.
The allurement and poetry of „forbidden“, unusual and sometimes rare or expensive materials fascinate me. With this there is, next to a natural attraction to shimmering and blinking things, again the topic of commensurabilities – do expensive materials loose their value within the art market? We do no live in medieval times any more when painting was paid minding the value of the applied colours – standards have shifted.
Values disappear rather quickly today – or are created equally fast. It is a game which is played by everybody. Resistance seems futile – but it is, despite all sorrow and trouble, fun.
At least we are all hunters and gatherers – searching for money and happiness.
