Wildlife and Bird Artist
I was born in Guernsey back in 1957, and went to St Peter Port Secondary School. I left school at age 15 with no formal qualifications, but I always had a love of drawing and continued this when I left. It wasn't until the age of approximately 18 that some friends encouraged me to try watercolours, and one in particular who first showed me the art of watercolour painting, and this began the long and at times frustrating road in teaching myself to paint.
I experimented with different mediums, but only ever trying to paint in a lifelike way. During this time I began to paint birds as a main subject, and it was also around this time that I became aware of the work of a New Zealand born artist called Raymond Harris Ching, whose early watercolour paintings are wonderfully detailed and lifelike. Inspired by Harris Chings work I had a real desire to try and create detailed wildlife and bird paintings.
In the late eighties I was lucky enough to be offered a joint exhibition at the Coach House Gallery with a UK artist, Diane Rosher. As a result of this show I had two further one man exhibitions with the Coach House Gallery and a charity exhibition for the Lords Taverners, I also held small exhibitions to help raise money for the local RSPB group.
I work in water based mediums including; Chroma Colour, Acrylic and Watercolour.
I’ve not painted much over recent years but hope to find some motivation and start again.
