Painter
I studied graphic design at Birmingham College of Art and worked in the design studio at Kays mail order catalogue. Marrying and moving to London I worked in an art studio specialising in catalogue production. Relocating to Guernsey I worked as a commercial artist and continued working on a freelance basis as an illustrator after starting a family. I also became interested in textiles and designed a clothing range for Jaeger in London's Regent street and setting up a production company in Guernsey. Escaping the fashion scene I jumped at the opportunity when it arose to teach art and design at Elizabeth College and spent 23 years doing all my favourite things; drawing, painting, collage, textiles, 3D and ceramics. Teaching 11 to 18 year olds I discovered a lot from their creativity and counted it a privilege to have been part of their world.
In my spare time I make the most of the special light in Guernsey and paint sunlit pictures in pastel and in oil paint. At home we have a large greenhouse where I work in the warm painting the changing light on vegetation. I have always been interested in portraiture and had my first portrait exhibition when I was a student.
Commissions include individuals from the corporate world, College principals, children, family members and family pets. Portraits of two of the Islands' past Bailiffs are displayed in the Royal Court and others are in collections off the island.
I am currently teaching, part time, 'A' level students at the Ladies' College and also preparing for an exhibition at the Coach House Gallery in September.
