Art has always been part of my life. Having studied it whilst training to become a teacher, I became head of the art department in an Inner London school. I left the UK in 1976 to live in the Middle East and whilst living out there I worked on commissions for friends and acquaintances until I had my first child.
On my return to the UK I was fully involved in raising my family and it is only in the last 18 years, having moved to Guernsey that I have really had the time to devote to art again. Whilst teaching at a local school, I attended Guernsey College of FE on a part-time basis and gained a GNVQ and HND in Fine Art at distinction level.
Since then I have undertaken many commissions including a series of woodcut prints of the Guernsey coastline which are on permanent display at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. Some of my other commissions can be seen on my Facebook page ‘Art by Nina Molnar’.
My early work was greatly influenced by the artists Frank Stella and Brice Marden and in recent years I have gained enormous inspiration from all forms of Japanese art.
In 2006 I suffered a severe injury to my neck which affected the strength in my shoulders and arms – initially, I could not hold a paintbrush. Because of this, I explored a pointilist style of paint application using sticks and cut down paintbrushes. I have since developed this method of colour usage and absorbed it into my personal style and it has led to the strong textural effects characteristic of my paintings and the creation of pen and ink compositions totally formed in dots.
