Louise is a self taught artist who began practicing art after completing a second degree in digital marketing. When Louise is not working at Guernsey arts she spends her time painting pictures of pubs, clubs and restaurants all around Guernsey.
Louise took up urban sketching during lockdown as a way of learning to appreciate her surroundings. From there Guernsey pubs was born.
“there is something especially human about pubs. The shared memories they hold for the community and the events and stories that play out inside and around them.“ - Lousie Le Pelly
Louise is half french and grew up with lots of exposure to animation and Bandes dessinées, this graphic approach became a key influence in her artwork. Louise also enjoys hiding clues and small secret details in pieces that she paints.
Louise enjoys trying out new mediums all the time but mainly works with water colours, ink and POSCA pens to create her pubs. Louise also enjoys using gold and copper foil when life drawing and using pastels when the moment calls for it.
“One of the things I love most about Guernsey is that we have a very supportive artistic community, who can be relied on to help with support and advice. Get out there, network, take opportunities when they come to you and listen to the advice and guidance of those who are willing to help. Finding the courage to share my artworks publicly is one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done So what I would recommend to anyone reading is to go for it!” - Lousie Le Pelly
