Geraldine Green

I’ve always felt making and creating is my true calling.  I did Textiles and Fashion and Fine Art for A-level and went on to do an Art Foundation course at Bournemouth.  Life and a lack of self belief has conspired against me at times but I have continued to draw, paint and make through the years.  About 2 years ago (aged 47) I began to feel a powerful impulse express myself creatively.  I managed to sell a few pieces of work and gain confidence.

I’m compelled to paint and love colour and texture.  I like to produce work that looks like it’s jumping out of the frame.  My style is not traditional but not abstract, somewhere in between.  My inspiration comes from the Guernsey seashore, wildlife, landscapes and historical buildings.  I like sea swimming and am often drawn to watery themes.  I’m influenced by a number of Brighton artists, other local artists and the old masters like Braque, Cezanne and Monet.

Textiles and embroidery are other mediums I like to work with.  I love using fabrics and felt to make 3 -dimensional pictures and shapes.  I try to ‘paint with wool’ and use combinations of threads and beads to create unique and unusual pieces.

I’m excited to be on this creative journey and looking forward to seeing where it leads.
