The 2016 Skipton Art Festival launched in July with four public painting workshops open to all ages and experience, we had about 200 people taking part in this aspect of the festival with many visitors to the island engaging with this event. The design of the 12 panels when put together was of an iconic £1 bank note, featuring local historical figures as well as flowers and boats., the original design was by artist Frances Lemmon. The panels were stretched onto timber frames that had been made up the rehabilitation unit of the prison.
At the beginning of August the 12 painted panels were taken off their stretchers and placed within the Guernsey landscape at various heritage sites around the island and left for the month to weather. Whilst in situ we had two big summer storms which resulted in two of the panels being taken down for safety reasons. A geocache trail was also laid between the different sites with fun activities for all the family to take part in.
In September the panels were brought back together and put back onto their frames, and then made into four different sculpture shapes by sculptor Joe Kincaid, any weathering of the canvasses was acknowledged as an intrinsic part of the sculpture. The shapes were, Ring, Tower, Dolmen and Castle and echoed the Castle Cornet site and each shape was in place for one week.
